High Jump Higher: High Jump Technique, Training, and Performance Tips and Videos

Simply put, I LOVE to high jump. When I started back in high school I was stuck at 5'4" for an entire year. Even worse, I thought it was 5'6" until we found out the standards were 2" off. Not cool.

No matter what my coaches told me to do I never improved. So, I took it upon myself to figure out what I was doing wrong and fix it. For the next year I religiously studied the high jump, watching every meet, recording every jump, and analyzing each frame for hours at a time.

The next season came around and in 3 months I went from 5'4" to 6'6" without a coach. High Jump Higher is the way I share my lessons with other high jumpers out there. Check out the archives, browse the videos, or start with a few recommended resources below.

Best of luck with your jumping!

My Shoe Recommendions

Shoes are something I get asked about a lot. While you can absolutely jump in traditional spikes to some point, the harder you plant the bigger risk you have of injury due to the forces placed on the heel that sprint spikes aren't designed for (I once tore the heel out of my shoe before upgrading to high jump spikes). You can still find strap-on J-Heel spikes now and again, but these are my recommend shoes for the 2025 season.
