Top 5 YouTube High Jump Videos...Incredible
Hey,
I was working on a few technique tips I will be sending out here in
the next few weeks and watching some YouTube videos to remind me of
various jumping styles and though, "Hey, I bet everyone would like
to watch some of these!"
So, without further delay, my 5 favorite high jump videos:
1) Javier Sotomayor, World Record 8'0.5" (2.45m)
How could I not include this one. The guy was incredible, clearing
2.4 so many times it's scary.

2) Stefan Holm, 7'10.5" (2.40m)
Stefan Holm is 5'11"...need I say more. Ridiculous, this guy has
been on top of the high jumping scene for a long time.

3) Charles Austin, 7'10.5" (2.40m)
Sorry for the Aussies that are reading, but this one is a shout out
the the guy whose picture hung in my high school locker. Here he
is setting the American Record.

4) ABUSED GOAT, 7'4" (2.24m)
There are a ton of comments questioning the actual height, but
either way, this dude has some serious ups and incredible in-air
technique. It's like he is floating...I love watching this one.

5) Kajsa Bergqvist,6'10" (2.08m)
Gotta have a girl on here, they usually have dead-perfect form and
Kajsa is no exception, seen here setting the world indoor record.

That's all for now, if any else has some favorites, let me know and
I will include them in the next email. Speaking of which, I am
preparing quite possibly the most important, valuable technique
tips I have ever shared, so keep an eye out for those.

Shoes are something I get asked about a lot. While you can absolutely jump in traditional spikes to some point, the harder you plant the bigger risk you have of injury due to the forces placed on the heel that sprint spikes aren't designed for (I once tore the heel out of my shoe before upgrading to high jump spikes). You can still find strap-on J-Heel spikes now and again, but these are my recommend shoes for the 2025 season.
These have great reviews, are reasonably priced, and I love having a velcro strap for a little bit of extra squeeze over my arch.

I've always loved Asics shoes. My first pair was Asics and they always fit my feet well without feeling too stiff like other brands.
Price: $170-180

While Nike's were never my favorite, I have jumping friends who love Nike high jump shoes and right now these are the best they've got.
Price: $110-$150 (usually)
